Match racing in Monaco; ARMIN STROM Sailing Team puts mixed crew forward

ARMIN STROM Sailing Team will line up against three other foiling GC32 catamarans as part of the Monaco Sportboat Winter Series over the next few days.

Skipper Flavio Marazzi is excited to hit the water once again, this time with two out of the five crew members being female sailors. While kiwi Olympian Sharon Ferris-Choat has been part of the race crew during the GC32 Racing Tour this year, it’s the first time that more than one female will make up the crew.

For this event Marazzi will be joined by Swiss 470 sailor Linda Fahrni who has just completed an Olympic campaign with the games in Rio de Janeiro, as well as offshore sailor and multiple world record holder Dee Cafarri who was part of the all-women’s Team SCA in the last edition of the Volvo Ocean Race. Another Swiss sailor, 19-year-old Janik Roempp will join the team, bringing experience from sailing GC32’s as part of Team Tilt this year. Rounding off the five crew members is Irishman Shane Diviney, who has sailed consistently with ARMIN STROM Sailing Team since January and competed in all five events on the GC32 Racing Tour this year.
“It’s a different combination for us and I’m looking forward to seeing how we go. We’re a relatively young team and although some are quite new to the GC32 class, we’ve got some very talented sailors,” he says.
The event will host a match racing format for the GC32 course, with ENGIE, RealTeam, and Malizia all set to compete.
The regatta is organised by Yacht Club de Monaco and the Federation Monegasque de Voile, and will run from 11-13 November.
